R&B artist, Maxwell, was born and raised in New York. He first began singing in his Baptist Church, and became serious about music when he was a teen in the 90's. His non-religious influences were the SOS Band, Rose Royce and Patrice Rushen. Maxwell went on to play an important role in defining the neo-soul genre. By day Maxwell waited tables by day and performed in the evenings. Maxwell was signed in 1994 to Columbia Records and recorded Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite. Maxwell has maintained a career success with four albumn releases, his most recent release "BLACK summer'snight and a summer tour with Jill Scott.
