U2 formed in Dublin, Ireland as teenagers, after Larry Mullen Jr. posted a notice on the bulletin board seeking musicians. The band had tentatively decided on the name Feedback. The band then consisted of Larry Mullen, Bono, The Edge, Dik Evans, Adam Clayton, Ivan McCormick and Patrick Martin. Martin left the group after the first practice, and McCormick left after a few weeks.

The band changed their name once again to The Hype, but would not last long, as Dik Evans would soon depart the band and the band would once again change their name for good to U2.

U2 has developed and maintained a recognizable sound. Social and political content affirm a style that has become a part of U2. U2 has sold over 140 million albums world wide, in 2005 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.
